Description
Nike’s official product images of the “Hawaii” belie its true nature, showing only an upper covered fully in blue and peach floral print. Though this Hawaiian shirt-inspired veneer is certainly befitting of the shoe’s moniker, what’s not revealed is the bottom layer that the “Maui Wowie” nickname comes from. This layer offers both orange floral print and hairy green suede reminiscent of other 4/20 releases like the now-legendary SB Dunk High “Skunk.”
The only nod to this nickname in the official images appears on the insole, which features a custom print centered around a inebriated skull. Even Nike’s official product description dances around the hidden detail, saying the top layer “tears away over time, revealing surprises that further contribute to the shoe’s loud motif.” Elsewhere, hemp tongues and Swooshes work with orange tags, light-toned midsoles and cream laces to complete the look.
